چکیده
Objective The study aim was to compare interictal encephalographic (EEG) functional network topology between people with well-controlled idiopathic generalized epilepsy (WC-IGE) and drug-resistant IGE (DR-IGE). Methods Nineteen participants WC-IGE, 18 DR-IGE, 20 controls underwent a resting state, 64-channel EEG. An artifact-free epoch bandpass filtered into the frequency range of high low extended alpha. Weighted connectivity matrices were calculated. Mean degree, degree distribution variance, characteristic path length (L), clustering coefficient, small world index (SWI), betweenness centrality measured. A Kruskal–Wallis H-test assessed effects across groups. Where significant differences found, Bonferroni-corrected Mann–Whitney pairwise comparisons Results In alpha band (6–9 Hz), there difference in L at three-group level (p < .0001). This lower than both WC-IGE DR-IGE .0001 for both), no DR-IGE. = .031), variance .032), SWI .023) differed three groups (10–12 Hz). .029 higher compared .038), other comparisons. Significance is more regular band, potentially reflecting vulnerable structure. different from band. may reflect drug-induced changes that have stabilized by rendering it less likely synchronize. These results are potential importance advancing understanding mechanisms drug resistance as possible basis biomarker

Functional neuroimaging abnormalities in idiopathic generalized epilepsy
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques have been used to quantitatively assess focal and network abnormalities. Idiopathic generalized epilepsy (IGE) is characterized by bilateral synchronous spike-wave discharges on electroencephalography (EEG) but normal clinical MRI. Dysfunctions involving the neocortex, particularly the prefrontal cortex, and thalamus likely contribute to seizure activ...

متن کاملEffects of Marijuana on Ictal and Interictal EEG Activities in Idiopathic Generalized Epilepsy.
Marijuana-based treatment for refractory epilepsy shows promise in surveys, case series, and clinical trials. However, literature on their EEG effects is sparse. Our objective is to analyze the effect of marijuana on EEG in a 24-year-old patient with idiopathic generalized epilepsy treated with cannabis. We blindly reviewed 3 long-term EEGs-a 24-hour study while only on antiepileptic drugs, a 7...

OBJECTIVE To assess whether serum S100B levels could reflect a glial response in patients with epilepsy secondary to neurocysticercosis (NCC) and with idiopathic epilepsy. SUBJECTS AND METHODS Serum S100B levels were measured using an immunoluminometric assay in 20 patients with focal epilepsy related to chronic NCC (NCC group), and 19 patients with focal epilepsy (EPI group), matched by epid...
متن کاملIdentifying Corticothalamic Network Epicenters in Patients with Idiopathic Generalized Epilepsy.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Corticothalamic networks are considered core pathologic substrates for idiopathic generalized epilepsy; however, the predominant epileptogenic epicenters within these networks are still largely unknown. The current study aims to identify these epicenters by resting-state functional connectivity. MATERIALS AND METHODS To identify epicenters within the corticothalamic net...
